Terwilliger Plaza Appoints John M. Larson as President and CEO

After a national search, the Terwilliger Plaza Board of Directors has appointed John M. Larson as President and CEO, effective June 6, 2016. Larson has been a leader in the senior living industry for 28 years. Most recently he served in executive roles for two Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) with Pacific Retirement Services: Mirabella of Seattle and Holladay Park Plaza of Portland.

As a Regional Director and Executive Director of Mirabella of Seattle (2012-2015), Larson improved resident and staff satisfaction, led a major expansion of skilled nursing beds, and improved the community’s financial viability. As Executive Director of Holladay Park Plaza (2000-2012), Larson was responsible for major improvements in operations, finances, programs, and physical plant. Key achievements included: forming an in-home care agency to provide caregiver and companion services, overseeing significant renovation and expansion of the community, and consolidating wellness programs to better serve residents.

According to Clifford Droke, Chairman of the CEO Search Committee, “John Larson has a deep commitment to older adults and an excellent track record as a CCRC leader. The board especially appreciates his collaborative leadership style, business acumen and love of Portland. We are excited about Terwilliger Plaza’s next chapter with John at the helm.”

Larson’s involvement with the senior living field includes membership in Leading Age Oregon since 1988 and serving on the Legislative and CCRC Regulation Committees. He has a Masters in Intercultural Studies from Columbia International University (1994) and is licensed as an Oregon Nursing home Administrator.

Founded in 1958 and located in downtown Portland, Terwilliger Plaza is a highly respected and well-established CCRC. As incoming President and CEO, Larson will lead and manage a vibrant senior community of 350 in partnership with a resident-led board of directors and an executive team of vice-presidents.
