Every October, the Terwiliger Plaza Foundation does more than give back – they host a party to remember. And this year was no exception! The Great Gatsby Gala was a sumptuous affair full of hats and flappers, sips and noshes, and plenty of members celebrating the Roaring 20’s while also raising money for a wonderful cause. Here’s a recap:
1: The Menu of Excess:
Champagne, prosciutto-wrapped dates, crab croquettes and blackberry-glazed rack of lamb, anyone? The menu was brilliant, along with fig and goat cheese pastries, Bibb salad and red wine poached pears for dessert. Here are some Gatsby-inspired recipes.
2. Silent Era, Silent Auction:
While the drinks flowed, members bid on everything from theater and symphony tickets to a wine tasting party, a Hallmark Resort Cannon Beach trip to art, jewelry and Madame Butterly Bags – accompanied by Roaring 20’s tunes from pianist Sally Harmon and bassist Frank Gruner.
3: Pinkies Out & Petit Fours.
There’s no better way to end an evening than coffee, petit fours and the sounds of the Kevin Karrick Nostalgia Trio with Susan Sandel. Elegant! Want to make your own petit fours? Watch this video.
4: Unleash Your Inner Flapper!

5: Raise a Glass for the Foundation.
The Terwilliger Plaza Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, exists to fund projects and facility improvements that will enhance the quality of retirement living for all Terwilliger Plaza members. Proceeds from this year’s event will help make grants that impact members directly, like a new rowing machine for the Wellness Center. It’s just one example of how the Gala truly contributes to well-being at Terwilliger Plaza. Learn more about the Foundation.
