It’s December! And around here, that means it's time to recap our favorite event – the Fall Gala. It’s the must-attend party of the season, and this year it was all about glitz and giving while walking the red carpet at Terwilliger Plaza. The theme? Hooray for Hollywood! And the event? A star-studded affair that blended old and new Hollywood for a night our guests and members will never forget.
Up first? The silent auction, which featured prizes for everything from theater tickets to overnight getaways. Next, guests made their entrances through a red curtain and onto the red carpet for appetizers, signature Red Slipper cocktails and music from pianist Sally Harmon. The glamour continued with a four course, gourmet meal followed by the announcement of auction winners, dessert, and swing and jazz music from the Kevin Karrick Nostalgia Trio. From cocktails to conversations, new friendships to fundraising, this year’s event was the most successful ever, raising more than $28,600 in net proceeds.
The Terwilliger Plaza Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, exists to fund projects and facility improvements that will enhance the quality of retirement living for all Terwilliger Plaza members and to support the Lesta Hoel Memorial Trust Fund, which provides members of Terwilliger Plaza with aid and assistance after they have exhausted their funds. These grants are possible thanks to the Gala as well as philanthropic support from members, their families, vendors and friends of Terwilliger Plaza. In late September, members celebrated the opening of a new rooftop deck and bonsai garden, courtesy of a grant from the Foundation. From sunrise to sunset, members can now lounge, read, garden and bask in the improved amenities. The Foundation also provided the Wellness Center a grant for a new elliptical machine. It’s more than just a piece of equipment, it integrates with MyWellness Software, which gives staff and members the information they need to develop training programs, manage goals and stay motivated.
From the red carpet to a new rooftop deck, the Foundation generously gives and is generously supported by the extended family of Terwilliger Plaza. We’re already thinking about next year’s Gala. Aren’t you?
