From the forested trails across the street to amazing views around every corner, we’re close to downtown but even closer to nature. It’s just a special part of living here – and we wouldn't have it any other way. So whether you wake up and hit the Marquam trails or enjoy cherry blossoms right outside your window, nature is all around you. (Literally.)
Instead of walking around the block, why not walk through the forest? When you live here, you can literally walk across the street and onto the Marquam trails. Feel free to saunter over to the Lilac Garden and Duniway Park or keep going all the way to Council Crest for breathtaking views of the city. It’s peaceful – and is one of our favorite reasons for living here.
Birds and ducks and blooms, oh my!
Immerse yourself in more than 2,000 species of rhododendrons, azaleas and magnolias at the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden. This beautifully landscaped garden is at its best in May, and is only fifteen minutes away. Want so see it in action? Watch this video. (It also features a lively squirrel and a red winged blackbird at the end. Spring!)
Want to dig in the dirt? Tend to your own personal garden along our garden walk. It’s a great way to have a plot of your own and grow some things you love. And if you like arranging, you could find your calling on our Flower Committee. They make beautiful arrangements for the lobby as well as all around the Plaza. Nature inside, nature outside, nature everywhere.
Ever wondered why we’re called the Rose City? Attend the Portland Rose Festival and find out! Just moments from the Plaza, there are parades, floral walks, concerts and fireworks. It’s a great time of year to celebrate the flower that put us on the map.
Whether you’re gazing at blossoms from your window, tending to your garden or wandering through the forest just moments from your doorstep, it’s easy
to see why nature is just a part of life at Terwilliger Plaza.
