Terwilliger Plaza Seeks Vice President of Health & Wellness

The Opportunity

Terwilliger Plaza is a place where retirement has very little to do with retiring. Located in the heart of downtown Portland, Oregon, Terwilliger Plaza seeks a dynamic, forward thinking, strategic and experienced senior living leader with a keen sense of vision, strategic planning and positioning skills to serve as the Vice President of Health & Wellness.

Our strategic plan grows our services and our campus. This leader will influence this plan by the development, communication, and implementation of programs. This person will proactively collaborate alongside a team of leaders, to ensure the ongoing quality services and program improvement our members are looking for.

As a representative self-governed Continuing Care Retirement Community, we’re committed to empowering people 62 and up to lead vibrant, engaged lives. We’re nonsectarian and internationally accredited. Our next Vice President of Health & Wellness will be a trusted advisor to the CEO, and by working closely with the executive team will provide the leadership, execution, and experience required to support the Plaza’s growth. Terwilliger Plaza has strong traditions as a caring community. Our next Vice President of Health & Wellness will lead the Plaza Health and Wellness Division and the organization in a process of growth and change while stewarding the mission and core values at the heart of our community.

About Terwilliger Plaza

Incorporated in 1958, Terwilliger Plaza is a nonprofit senior living community, where residents “members” can lead active lives and age in place. Terwilliger Plaza is a unique community in which the board is comprised of a majority of Members. Staff and Members take pride in and value this model. Our doorway opens to Portland—one of the most dynamic cities in the world. Our members are well-educated and know how to live life to its fullest. We are a community of caring individuals eager to share our wisdom, gifts and energy with others.

Three hundred and fifty members live at Terwilliger Plaza and we have a waiting list of individuals interested in joining our community. Our campus includes 247 independent living apartments and 65 assisted living and residential-care apartments, and a wide range of medical and therapeutic healthcare services.

Members enjoy onsite dining, classes, a pool and wellness program, and other enrichment activities. Two supporting organizations, the Terwilliger Plaza Foundation and the Lesta Hoel Memorial Trust Fund, secure and manage philanthropic funds to enhance the community and to ensure that no member has to leave Terwilliger Plaza for financial reasons.

Just steps away from Terwilliger Plaza, our members have access to Portland’s world-class cultural offerings. Courses are available nearby at Portland State University and many member-led classes are offered within our community. In addition, Portland is home to spectacular parks and outdoor recreation opportunities, and is a gateway to the outstanding natural areas of the Pacific Northwest.

The Vice President of Health & Wellness is responsible for maintaining a respectful, empathetic, constructive and energetic leadership style to maintain quality, measurable and cost-effective results, aligned with the Terwilliger Plaza mission, vision and values and strategic objectives of our Residential Care, Assisted Living, In-Home Care, Wellness and Life Enrichment, and Member Services departments.

The Vice President of Health & Wellness will play an integral part as a member of the senior leadership team in ensuring resources are available, departments have the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and operating efficiency.
